Augmented Reality Navigation
The SLAM challenge
One of the exciting ADAS features to soon expect is augmented reality (AR) navigation and warnings which will increase safety and enhance the driving experience. Today's version of navigation guidance instructions is usually shown on the dashboard display or head-up display and only provide basic left/right guidance. While helpful, it does not yet live up to the potential of true AR.
How ArtiSLAM can be applied
ArtiSLAM is the enabling piece combining navigation guidance with road feature information within HD Maps. With Artisense's visual inertial odometry (VIO), we provide 6DoF (x, y, z, roll, pitch, yaw) position which is used to localize, extract and project relevant information from maps into the driver or passenger's field of view. This allows navigation companies to create detailed visual guidance instructions that will accurately and safely guide drivers while enabling immersive AR experiences for passengers.
How Clients Benefit
- 6 Degrees of Freedom: Artisense's VIO provides 6DoF poses, ie. exact position and heading which is needed to project the navigation guidance fittingly onto the scene.
- Extract & Use HD Map Road Features: With ArtiSLAM, the information found in HD Maps are no longer only accessible in GNSS-available locations but also in areas unreachable by GNSS eg. tunnels, dense cityscapes, partially covered roads.
- Greater Navigation Experience: With more precise navigation guidance that considers road lanes, boundaries and speed signs, the driving experience is made safer and more enjoyable for its users.
